Broadsound Solar Farm (QLD)

Broadsound Solar

Overview

Horizon United Group played a key role in the Broadsound Solar Farm and Battery project, carrying out detailed and bulk earthworks essential for the preparation and construction of the site. Located on Barada Kabalbara Yetimarala People land in Central Queensland’s Renewable Energy Zone, approximately 150 km north-west of Rockhampton, the 368 MWdc solar farm will cover around 900 hectares and consist of 634,000 solar panels.

Scope of works

Horizon United Group’s scope included extensive bulk earthworks to prepare the land for construction, as well as detailed earthworks to establish access tracks within the project area for both construction and operational activities. The team’s expertise ensured the creation of new entranceways on Marlborough Sarina Road and the infrastructure required for the solar farm and battery installation.

The project will be grid-connected to Powerlink’s existing Broadsound substation, with the Broadsound Battery located next to the solar farm substation within the same project site. Horizon United Group’s work was crucial in preparing the site to support the substantial construction and operational needs of the project, which is set to begin construction in early 2024.

This project, which has received development approval from Isaac Regional Council and a ‘not a controlled action’ referral decision under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, will make a significant contribution to Queensland’s renewable energy capacity.
