Condobolin Rail Flood Recovery (NSW)

Condobolin Rail

Overview

In 2022, Horizon United Group played a pivotal role in delivering emergency works for clients John Holland and ARTC, focusing on critical restoration efforts following severe flooding that impacted the ARTC network in New South Wales.

Scope of works:

ARTC’s efforts to restore services on the network were hampered by extensive flooding, especially along the Parkes to Condobolin section. Restoration activities in this area began promptly and made significant progress, with the section reopening on Monday, December 12th.

However, the situation remained challenging on theBroken Hill line, where track damage over a 70km stretch between Condobolin and Euabalong had left multiple sites severely impacted. Ballast and track formation had been washed away or were submerged, causing significant disruptions.

John Holland, appointed as the principal contractor, initiated recovery planning, and Horizon United Group was engaged to assist with emergency restoration efforts. The detailed recovery plans were put in place ahead of Christmas, aiming to restore the line as soon as possible.

ARTC projected that, based on the current recovery pace, the line between Condobolin and Euabalong would be reopened by mid to late January 2023. Horizon United Group’s quick response and expertise were integral to the overall success of these critical restoration works.
